Costa Rica 2008 with Aaron was a blast!

Quite a diverse crowd of over 70 enthusiastic participants. Aaron and Judy learned to do the Salza and took the rain forest boat trip.

Did you do the white water rafting expedition?

Looking forward to teaching the 7th Annual "Pain Management in Paradise" next year with my buddy James Waslaski. This will be his third time co-teaching in Costa Rica with me. I keep asking him back because we always have something new and fun to present and the participants have such a great time.

Check out my new Don't Get Married, part II in the September issue. Read Part I on my site www.erikdalton.com before delving into this new throry on locomotion and pain.

Best to you....ERIK

What a great time Costa Rica was this year! It was intense, fun, relaxing and thought provoking. Loved the new Myoskeletal Engine concepts introduced, and have been putting them into practice on a daily basis.

Thanks guys......

Erik, There is nothing like learning. Massage therapy is an endless education, and clearly you are involved in that process. I will keep checking for a class next year. Take care, JODY

Hi Jody:
Nothing like learning. I agree that Clair did a fine job with the Trigger Point book.

Nice transition from Travell and Simons and some of the earlier NMT stuff. Hope to see you next year in one of the Florida workshops. Check out www.takemyregistration.com for all the newest additions.

Best to you>>>>ERIK

Erik,That was meant to be an exclamation mark at the end of my entry.Happy to hear there are lots of therapists learning your work from other therapists who are learning as well. There are many different paths to the same place. I am returning to trigger points, but w/ a new understanding. I highly recommend a book by Clair Davies,"The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook." It is written as a self-help manual. He is very specific about what to do and what not to do. I have been getting great results w/ his technique, working on myself, too. I know you are BUSY but it's worth a look. -Jody

Hello Jody…long time no see.

I'm flattered by your comments. It sounds like you've studied with some of my personal favorite educators.

Am currently wrapping up my Don't Get Married, Part II article.....what a pain in the butt it's been trying to make sense of this new Myoskeletal Engine concept.

Kim and I will soon begin editing the new 6-DVD "Engine" series we shot a couple months ago.

Geoffrey has a new feature article in a major massage magazine publication on High Altitude Sports Massage using Myoskeletal Alignment. He just taught his first Myoskeletal workshop in Sedona and it was a great success.

Paul teaches his first Myoskeletal workshop in Houston in January so things are buzzing around here.

Michael, my workshop promoter, called today and said he had booked me in West Palm Beach in May. Don't know the details yet but check out my workshop page @ http://erikdalton.com/workshopsmassage.htm. for all the new updates.

Hope to see you and all my Florida pals soon...ERIK

Erik, Thanks for the reply. I am just returning to your blog; I am rather low-tech but just spent a long time reading your new book. How is the video coming? I am happy to see that you used my quote. Re-reading it, I was actually low-key. Honestly, your course took my previous knowledge and set it down in another place. I had studied w/ Tom Meyers, James W., Paul St. John...all good teachers. But your course helped me to let go of technique and embrace the sense of the matrix. The fact you were not concerned w/ lines and trains so much as shape and form. I tell my clients you turned me into a sculptor. Remember you said something like,"Forget what you know. What do you see?" That was transformative for me. The idea of the vertebrae as joints. The importance of the joints and kinetic flow. This knowledge gave new light to my previous teachers lessons. My massage was more effective. I knew less can be more and my body benefited from using my bones and my weight to soften and swim in the matrix. Your course took my practice into a completely new place, more effective and more delightful for therapist and client both. I still return to my notes, read your articles and such. Still learning from you all the time. Anatomy Trains is not quite so daunting now! So you can see why I am happy to recommend your course to any and all who will listen. I hope you do come to FL next year. I would like to be a TA if possible and have submitted info to someone on your end. Two clients who are also LMT's would like to attend. Again, Dr. Dalton, keep up the good and very important work? Oh, yes, I am intrigued by the the Skeleton Engine. Can't wait to learn more. JODY

Hey Erik-
Thought I’d post over here too, keep you on your toes! I want to update you and the readers on the progress of the Myoskeletal Techniques? courses at NAMTI. I am in the home stretch of teaching two 40-hour sections of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques as part of the schools core cirriculum. The students love the work, just two months before they hit the pavement as LMT’s, I get to work with them and introduce your concepts. I often see lights going on in their head, and witness many ah-ha moments. What a great feeling to help these students solidify the concepts they have been learning all along. We try to get them away from the idea that a good massage is 45 minutes on the upper back, 5 minutes on the neck, and a fly-by everywhere else. And it is working, students are coming out with some very solid concepts in pain management.

I really don’t mind if they use their favorite Thai massage technique, or if they want to call it Tui-Na, or myofascial, Swedish, etc., We are teaching more to the concepts, theory, direction of applications and learning to see, and feel deep. They get it and it works. Yesterday in class we had a discussion about what not to do. That was pretty handy, looking at dorsal dishing, flat spines, collapsed arches, high arches, hypermobility, hyperkyphosis, lordosis, and on and on. So learning a few “not to do’s” really opens up the possibilities to allow the student to expand their applications in a “therapeutic” way.

After the Costa Rica trip I am hosting a 25-hour CE workshop in Sedona, Arizona. Myoskeletal Alignment? for Neck, Low Back, Shoulder, Arm and Hand Pain. The class is being held at NAMTI, folks are welcome to come visit Sedona, it’s a great time of year to be in the red rocks, at the creek, or visit the mountains a half hour away. Some folks get really dialed in to all the Vortex activity, I would ask them to wait till after class to explore that! Dates are May 30th thru June 1, 2008. Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

See you this weekend…….
