Happy 80th B’Day to a living legend…Philip Greenman
March 17, 2008 – 1:20 pmLast week my friends at MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine threw a wonderful surprise party for my friend and mentor Phil Greenman in Tucson.
We must recognize these Giants “on whose shoulders we stand” for their great contributions to touch therapy. My advice is to seek out the old enlightened manual therapists and get some sessions.
Ask if they would be willing to share some of their techniques in a tutorial form.
You’ll be surprised at how many of them are eager to divulge their little therapeutic secrets but never get approached about it.
Have any of you had any experiences you’d like to share?
In touch…ERIK

Hi Erik,
I am a fan of Philip Greenman and would love to learn his techniques. When are you teaching in Florida again? I met you at the Fascial Conference last October when we spent time with Jim Asher.
Thanks,
Ari

Greetings again Ari:
I knew the first time Phil Greenman placed his hands on me way back in 1992 that my mission was to try to be as accomplished as this man.
Unfortunately, I soon realized that he’d probably forgotten more that I would ever know.
Greenman had no therapeutic modality boundaries. Smoothly flowing from muscle energy to high-velocity thrust to myofascial release to cranial to visceral to functional, he automatically adapted his techniques to acommodate any aberrant functional or structural strain patterns…while lecturing at the same time…AMAZING!
I hope to teach again in Florida early next year…maybe in February and possibly at the FSMTA Convention in July.
Good to hear from you again Ari. That was quite a thril at the Fascial Conference. By the way, Jim Asher, my dear friend and mentor from the Rolf Institute faculty, assisted my three-day workshop in Tucson last month. We really had a blast. As you know, Jim was one of the first teachers selected by Ida Rolf and assisted her more times than anyone else (six classes).
Stay in touch…ERIK

Dear Erik, I also was wondering if you are coming to South Florida any time soon. I attended your certification course in Boca Raton about two years ago. I learned much more than technique from your course; I also learned new ways of seeing and understanding the body. My practice has evolved greatly from that experience. I also enjoyed hearing about the wealth of your experience. You were one of the few instructors who came with enthusiasm, humility and homage to those that had taught you - a breath of FRESH air in the bodywork biz. Thank you two years later. I have shared much of what I learned with other therapists and some went on to take your course. Keep up the wonderful work! -Jody Kenyon

Wow Jody:
Thank you for taking the time to reply in such a kind way. Can I use your words for a testamonial on my website????
Seriously…that was a fun group of therapists in that Advanced Myoskeletal Techniques Boca workshop. I’m always delighted when someone compliments the hard work the Freedom from Pain Institute’s staff puts into each seminar. Michael Holloway (our promoter) at www.TakeMyRegistration.com does a fine job of locating nice venues and acommodating the participants and I just try to keep it fun for all.
Hope to be in Florida a couple times next year. It will depend on how my new video project progresses. Two weeks ago, we shot 22 hours of three-camera footage so Kim Miller and I will be in that dark editing room until we look like vampires…thanks again…ERIK
