Hey Erik-
Thought I’d post over here too, keep you on your toes! I want to update you and the readers on the progress of the Myoskeletal Techniques? courses at NAMTI. I am in the home stretch of teaching two 40-hour sections of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques as part of the schools core cirriculum. The students love the work, just two months before they hit the pavement as LMT’s, I get to work with them and introduce your concepts. I often see lights going on in their head, and witness many ah-ha moments. What a great feeling to help these students solidify the concepts they have been learning all along. We try to get them away from the idea that a good massage is 45 minutes on the upper back, 5 minutes on the neck, and a fly-by everywhere else. And it is working, students are coming out with some very solid concepts in pain management.
I really don’t mind if they use their favorite Thai massage technique, or if they want to call it Tui-Na, or myofascial, Swedish, etc., We are teaching more to the concepts, theory, direction of applications and learning to see, and feel deep. They get it and it works. Yesterday in class we had a discussion about what not to do. That was pretty handy, looking at dorsal dishing, flat spines, collapsed arches, high arches, hypermobility, hyperkyphosis, lordosis, and on and on. So learning a few “not to do’s” really opens up the possibilities to allow the student to expand their applications in a “therapeutic” way.
After the Costa Rica trip I am hosting a 25-hour CE workshop in Sedona, Arizona. Myoskeletal Alignment? for Neck, Low Back, Shoulder, Arm and Hand Pain. The class is being held at NAMTI, folks are welcome to come visit Sedona, it’s a great time of year to be in the red rocks, at the creek, or visit the mountains a half hour away. Some folks get really dialed in to all the Vortex activity, I would ask them to wait till after class to explore that! Dates are May 30th thru June 1, 2008. Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
See you this weekend…….
Geoffrey
