- Rick Morgan is the founder and current President of the American Pregnancy Massage Association. Throughout his massage career, Rick has focused on pregnancy massage because of the immediate benefit it has for pregnant women. He owns and operates a multiple award-winning Massage Center in the Washington DC area, where he maintains his practice. When he opened Rejuvenations Massage Therapy, he wanted to focus on pregnancy massage. As he looked for quality training courses to offer his staff, he realized that there was a huge disparity in what was available, with no minimum standards for what being “certified” meant.
Rick formed the APMA to start the work of setting standards for pregnancy massage. Working with pregnancy massage educators, the APMA developed minimum standards of training, and therapists who meet these standards are eligible for membership. It is Rick’s goal to offer resources to the public about the benefits of pregnancy massage as well as a way to find qualified massage therapists in their area.
Before becoming a massage therapist, Rick received his Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing and was a pediatric and neonatal intensive care nurse at a leading Childrens hospital. Rick’s nursing background includes extensive experience with research and how to develop research studies, which is an important component of the APMA mission. Rick is a guest lecturer at the AKS massage school, having spoken on topics from therapeutic massage techniques to marketing.
