About Rick Morgan
Rick Morgan is the founder and current president of the American Pregnancy Massage Association (APMA). Throughout his massage career, Morgan has focused on pregnancy massage because of the immediate benefit it has for pregnant women. He owns and operates a multiple award-winning massage center in the Washington, D.C. area, where he maintains his practice.
When he opened his massage center, Rejuvenations Massage Therapy, he wanted to focus on pregnancy massage. For him, that meant making sure all of his therapists had advanced training in pregnancy massage. As he looked for quality courses to offer his staff, he realized there was a huge disparity in what was available, with no minimum standards for what being “certified” meant.
Morgan formed the APMA to start the work of setting standards for pregnancy massage. Working with pregnancy massage educators, the APMA developed minimum standards of training, and therapists who meet these standards are eligible for membership. It is Morgan’s goal to offer resources to the public about the benefits of pregnancy massage as well as a way to find qualified massage therapists in their area.
Before becoming a massage therapist, Morgan received his bachelor’s degree in nursing and was a pediatric and neonatal intensive care nurse at a leading children’s hospital. Morgan’s nursing background includes extensive experience with research and how to develop research studies, which is an important component of the APMA mission. Morgan is a guest lecturer at the AKS Massage School, having spoken on topics from therapeutic massage techniques to marketing.
