Hi Ann,

In my job as a massage program volunteer coordinator at a hospice I often hear the same reasons. Working with this population is a special calling and I am in awe of those who have answered this call, especially those who are moved to give so generously of their time.

Best,
Eva

Dear Peg,
Thank you for your heartfelt message. Many massage therapists entering the field of massage for eldercare or hospice feel "called" to do so. You are in good company! Welcome!

Hi Ann, I've been a nurse for 31 years with my most recent experience in oncology nursing, giving chemotherapy. A couple of months ago I graduated from massage school. My plan is to combine my oncology nursing experience with massage. I feel passionate about caring for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Unfortunately, over the past 3 years I've experienced multiple losses in my family. The silver lining through all that has been a renewed committment in the power of presence with patients and families as they navigate the journey through illness. How blessed I am to be able to make a difference in people's lives on such a regular basis! I think this type of work is a "calling" of sorts. Through my personal experience of accompanying family members through active treatment to hospice to a comfortable death, I see the value of compassionate care. Hope this feedback may be helpful to others. Peg
