The Descendants

I saw The Descendants tonight and I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. The story is messy and yet very believable. Most of all it brought home to me how the dying process brings each one of us, if we are willing, more into the present moment as time stops around the death bed, and the pain of loss mingles with the potency of that moment.

I found myself driving home with a mixture of feelings – from moments past when I have been in similar situations. There is always the impending loss – which creates a heaviness of heart for all involved – as well as the immediacy of the events that are unfolding. If you can let it, the present moment comes into sharp relief at such times – allowing us to touch the sweetness of connection if we dare, even as it slips away.

So, I recommend this film. It tells a story that has meaning for all of us. It has beautiful scenery and Kauai will always be my favorite Hawaiian island. And there is redemption in the end. I like that.

And, enjoy!

I loved the film too. Difficult to watch Dad struggling to relate to his daughters and handle the details of daily life for the first time. George Clooney not hard to look at though. Beautiful Hawaiian music soundtrack. I downloaded it from itunes. Yes, we can go along taking for granted significant people in our life and suddenly they are no more. Each moment is precious.
