Happy Valentine’s Day

February is the month that honors the heart and all things pertaining to love. Expanding beyond the romantic love imagery so touted by mainstream media, how can we care for our hearts and the heart connections that nurture us most deeply this month in particular? I wanted to share some favorite ways that I do this in my life and perhaps that can inspire you to come up with a few of your own!

Schedule time to slow down. Heart connections take relaxed time and space. So set aside time with loved ones that allows you the space to simply “be” with each other. Perhaps a good fire in the fireplace, an extended easy meal with no deadlines or places to be afterwards, and a curiosity about how life is going for those you are getting together with.

Often I need help to slow down. So I take a long warm bath with essential oils or Epsom salts and a good book. This helps me be more present for that wonderful time with friends and family!

Good bodywork can help me slow down, as well – a massage or a CranioSacral session or a good acupuncture treatment. I learned long ago that I sometimes don’t know how much I have sped up until I slow down again!

The third thing that always helps me is a good walk in nature with a friend or alone. At this time of year we have to bundle up here, but nothing refreshes and relaxes me like a good long walk in the crisp cold air.
