Myofascial Release

Subject: Myofascial Release for animals

July 22, 2009 · 3 Comments

I have treated dogs, cats, birds and race horses successfully using my Myofascial Release principles. Cathleen recently asked the following question on my latest blog:

“Good evening Mr. Barnes,
I’m interested in taking Mark Barnes Equine 1 with Tamara Rapier. What results have you seen with the horses? Do the principles and teaching of Mark Barnes’ course mirror your own? Do you recommend the course and Miss Rapier as a teacher and practitioner?
Your insight and direction are sincerely appreciated.
Best,
Cathleen”

Animals respond even faster than humans to Myofascial Release techniques.  Their life is motion.  They become an active participant in their treatment.

For more information on equine Myofascial Release, call Tamara Rapier (573-694-0350 or inquiry@myofascialrelease.com ) or Cathy Covell (260-829-6363 or http://www.motionforlife.net/ ).  Both are incredible therapists that teach the Myofascial Release principles that mirror mine and I highly recommend their equine Myofascial Release seminars.

Thanks for your interest.

John

Hello Cathleen and thank you John,

Thank you very much for requesting information and commenting on my equine course. This course was developed by Mark Barnes in the mid 90′s and I have proudly taught it since 2001. I feel I have brought a great deal of experience to Mark’s class with 20 years of training with John, horsemanship and a 10 year equine myofascial release practice. I am currently providing about 1000 equine treatments/year.

As John mentioned, horses (and other animals) respond much quicker to the
myofascial release techniques than humans. I believe that the animals are not arguing with their left brain, it’s natural for them to let go. Humans often carry emotional baggage or hold on to outdated mental concepts that prevent them from letting go. The animals seem to be in the present moment, I think this speeds recovery as well.

I have helped high level equine athletes of every discipline and also horses who are just loved by their owners. It’s very rewarding to help horses who were given up on and exhilarating to watch a horse win a big stakes race.

Veterinarians are taking this class, and many who don’t have the time to do this kind of work are looking for a myofascial therapist. As you may know there are many snake oil salesmen in the horse world. Myofascial release is authentic health care. My business partner and I will sometimes evaluate with veterinarians and after our treatment they can better identify the problem causing a mystery lameness or we will completely eliminate the problem.

Please contact me for more information. My business has grown tremendously! equinemyofascialrelease.com or inquiry@equinemyofascialrelease.com

    Cathleen-

Yes, there are amazing results when you use John’s Myofascial Release principles when treating horses! They are so easy to treat because they don’t get caught in their head like us humans do- they just feel!
You will start to see the effects almost instantly when you treat them. The results truly speak for themselves!

The seminar is also great for therapists who only treat humans. It really enhances the ability of therapists to trust their feel.

I integrate what I learned from taking all of John Barnes’ classes and working at his treatment center in Pennsylvania into the Equine Seminar that I developed and teach.

Hopefully, you will be able to find a seminar that you will be able to attend soon! You won’t be disappointed!

    Cathleen,

Frequently, I’m asked “How do you know if a horse needs a myofascial treatment if they can’t tell you about
their problem.” A very common signal from a horse is a behavioral change. Horses are great at covering up their pain and dysfunction. John Barnes myofascial release techniques teach you how to see and feel restriction in the body. During the three day Mark Barnes Equine 1 you can learn to see and feel fascial restrictions even though the horse cannot speak to you.
You will learn a comprehensive evaluation approach.

If you have a license to touch you can also take John Barnes classes. My class is open to therapists who are interested in developing their human skills as well. It’s incredible to feel the fascial releases on a horse and very different to feel through hide and hair! The energy field of a horse is huge, this always amazes people.

    thank you, Tamara Rapier, RPT
