Dear Olga, Thank you for your question, “What advice can you give to new graduates that are entering into the massage field?”
Health care has ignored the most important attributes we posses as humans, the three C’s: Curiosity, Compassion, and Courage.
Curiosity- The “facts” that are taught in medical, dental and therapeutic schools have been known to be obsolete for decades, yet they are still being taught! Be curious and explore new possibilities.
Compassion- There is an old but true saying, “The client doesn’t care what you know, til he knows that you care”. Open your heart. Move beyond intellectual knowledge into the wisdom and vastness of your feeling intelligence that will guide you unerringly.
Courage- It is not enough to think, talk or read. To be truly meaningful, we need to turn our intellectualization into action. It takes courage to act!
If you are interested, I could give you or others more detail on any of these concepts, books, DVD’s, and seminars that might be of interest to you. Just ask.
I appreciate your curiosity.
John

John,
I agree. Great answer, and very inspiring.
Olga,
Now that I have been through a massage therapy program first and recently a physical therapy program, I would like to add a “Q”: Question.
Question what you see, hear and read. Just because information is on paper, even in a research study, in a journal or coming from an esteemed professional, that does not mean the information is a the best information for a particular patient.
I had a professor in PT school tell us that all a patient needs is 30-45 seconds, of hands-on treatment. You bet, I had to challenge her right away.
My point is a person who is writing or talking about a subject should be able to take a hard question about that subjects and give you an unemotional answer and be truthful about the limits of their knowledge.
So keep asking questions.

I saw this and yes I am interested how do I go about aquiring these. A women fellow therapist, introduce me to you saying that I should take the time to see one of your conference it would be well worth it. From what I read about you online I agree. I will be taking my exam this month, and want to get a step up on everything I need to know. Massage has been my passion all my life, and I am in my mid 50′s and hope that I will be the best Therapist I can be. I think she referred me because of health concerns I had for myself and my age.
