Myofascial Release, the Missing Link!

February 26, 2009 · 1 Comment

“Mr. Barnes,  My name is Olga, and I am almost done with my Massage AS degree from Keiser University in West Palm Beach, FL.  I am working on a research paper on Myofascial Release.  I admire your contribution and passion for what you do.  My question is, what advice can you give to new graduates that are entering into the massage field?” Thanks, Olga

Dear Olga, John has been giving seminars “back to back” for the last few weeks and has been unable to answer your question.  I am posting your question on the blog so that other Myofascial therapists may give you some insight.

Thanks,

    Hello Olga,

I came to MFR about a year after becoming a Massage Therapist. I was a experiencing a wide range of pain symptoms, none of which I sought massage therapy for relief. It sounds funny that the Massage Therapist did not seek out Massage for care, but looking back at it now it was for a variety of reasons. From my experience, some advice I would give to new massage students would be:

    – Hear everything you are being taught, then Listen to what your mind and body are telling you and draw upon your own conclusion.

    – A textbook will divide our body into parts; muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, etc… A true practitioner will see those parts as one whole being.

I hope this helps you. Best of luck!

    Jessica
